Overview Schedule 40 PVC pipe in 1-1/2" (OD 1.900", wall 0.145") is the industry-standard rigid pressurised piping for irrigation mainlines, valve manifolds, backflow-preventer piping, and pump discharge headers. Its 330 PSI pressure rating far exceeds typical irrigation system working pressure (40–150 PSI), providing a substantial safety margin. Schedule 40 joins with solvent-cement fittings conforming to ASTM D2466 or CSA B137.2, or with threaded transition adapters. Common applications include mainlines from the meter or pump to zone valves, manifold assemblies, and sleeved crossings under paved surfaces. Manufactured to ASTM D1785 (NSF 14/61 listed), this pipe is suitable for potable water systems and general irrigation use. UV-stable formulation resists degradation during above-grade installation exposure, though permanent above-grade installations should be shielded or painted for long-term UV protection. PVC Schedule 40 is not rated for pressure above 140°F; for hot-water or high-temperature environments, use Schedule 80 or CPVC. Compatible with all standard IPS PVC fittings and valves.
